Sekhukhune SMMEs get a resounding boost at Africa Travel Indaba

Sekhukhune

The Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), in partnership with its local municipalities, Sekhukhune Tourism Association (STA), Limpopo Tourism Association (LTA) and the Sekhukhune Development Agency (SDA), participated in this year’s 2024 Africa Travel Indaba prestigious event held at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) in Kwazulu-Natal Province recently.

The significant participation was preceded by an official send-off by SDM Executive Mayor, Cllr Minah Bahula.

In her address, the executive mayor committed to hosting a dedicated tourism indaba within the district in the near future, emphasising the importance of promoting local tourism and fostering economic growth.

“We are confident that our involvement in the Africa Travel Indaba led to greater visibility and investment in our district, further supporting the growth of our local economy and tourism sector,” said Bahula.

She emphasizes the importance of making tourism inclusive for all, with a specific focus on positioning Sekhukhune as a premier tourism destination.

She highlights the crucial role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) in these endeavours, recognizing their efforts in collaboration with the government to address the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty, and inequality in our communities.

The mayor again reiterates the significance of celebrating the diversity and beauty of Sekhukhune’s land, urging delegates to proudly showcase the district’s offerings to tourism enthusiasts.

The event saw a diverse range of Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and businesses from the Sekhukhune District showcasing their unique products and services.

According to the district municipality, the participation not only highlighted the rich cultural and economic potential of the district, but also opened new avenues for business opportunities and tourism development.
