Makhuduthamaga council endorses R20 million for boreholes’ repairs and maintenance
JANE FURSE – In its Special Council Meeting (SCM) held on 24 May, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) council has approved R20 million for repairs and maintenance of the existing boreholes across the municipality to attend to the problem of lack of access to water faced by many communities.
Thomas Mashabela, MLM spokesperson, informed that the programme is funded through the grand revenue of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) and that maintenance work would be done in line with the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the local and the district municipalities.
Mashabela further revealed that the council also approved the final draft of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget to facilitate the municipality’s developmental projects in the new financial year of 2024/2025.
“The municipality’s Executive Committee, led by Mayor, Merah Mahlase presented the revised IDP and Budget for the financial year 2024/2025 to respond to the changing circumstances and demand for services in accordance with the Municipal Structure Act. To comply with the Municipal Finance Management Act, the council has additionally, approved the annual budget for 2024/2025 with a total revenue of R559, 761 000,” explained Mashabela.
Moreover, the council observed a moment of silence in honour of a Grade 6 learner, Kgothatso Kgapola from Hlabje Primary School in Glen Cowie Village, who passed away as a result of a car accident on Saturday, 18 May.
Mayor Mahlase and the entire council sent condolences to the affected family, friends and learners at Hlabje Primary School.
