The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Minah Bahula, had on Friday 10 May, spearheaded the inauguration of a borehole project at Dipakapakeng in Tafelkop Village, marking yet another significant milestone in the district’s journey towards improved water services.

The project will provide access to clean drinkable water to more than 400 households in Tafelkop Village and surrounding areas of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) Ward 28, who had been enduring long walks to fetch water from the rivers.

The municipality said the initiative stands as a testament to Mayor Bahula’s unwavering dedication to addressing the pressing needs of the community.

“These proactive measures cements the Executive Mayor’s proactive approach towards ensuring equitable access to essential resources, such as clean and drinkable water for all residents,” Said SDM Spokesperson, Lemson Moropjane.

He added that the implementation of the borehole projects serves as interim measures to alleviate water scarcity challenges within the district while laying the groundwork for sustainable solutions.

“Mayor Bahula’s vision and proactive stance have significantly contributed to uplifting the lives of residents, fostering resilience, and fostering a sense of hope for a brighter future,” Moropjane said.

Furthermore, Mayor Bahula, joined by the Mayor of EMLM, Cllr David Tladi, has demonstrated her steadfast leadership by officially handing-over another borehole project contractor in the neighbouring Maakaepea Village, located in EMLM Ward 25.

Mayor Bahula said the projects comes as part of interventions to resolve water challenges in communities, with the district municipality started the drilling of boreholes in several wards.

“The district municipality is implementing various interventions to resolve water challenges, particularly in the rural parts of the municipality. One of these interventions is the drilling of boreholes in several wards, which has already started,” she said.

“One borehole at a time”, remarked Executive Mayor Bahula, emphasizing the importance of tackling water challenges gradually and systematically.

The benefiting communities commend Mayor Bahula for her vision, in which under her leadership, the district has handed over four other boreholes which include three in the Moutse area and one in Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM).

“We thank the executive mayor for exemplary commitment and thoughtful initiatives in enhancing the quality of life within the district,” said one of the residents.

Mayor Tladi has urged the residents to take care of the water infrastructure.
