MEC Ramathuba opens Bosele EMS station and additionally hands over ambulances
MONSTERLUS – In a move that seeks to ensure swift responses to emergencies in the Hlgotlou area and further meet the current needs of the communities, while accommodating future growth with regard to healthcare, Limpopo MEC for Health, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba handed over a fleet of 25 new ambulances during the opening of the Bosele Emergency Medical Service (EMS) station in Monsterlus on Tuesday, 7 May.
The station is expected to serve as a full-time hub for ambulances and crew members. The ambulances handover marks a significant landmark towards MEC’s undertaking of availing 500 new ambulances across the province during her 2024/2025 budget speech.
Additionally, MEC Ramathuba activated a 24-hour primary healthcare service at Probeering Clinic which serves Mashabela villages within Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality that day.
Over the past months, the MEC has been steadfast in activating 24-hour healthcare services at clinics across the province, especially those in rural areas where patients often face long journeys to access medical care.
Ramathuba expressed her enthusiasm for enhancing service delivery to communities, emphasizing the department’s commitment to strengthen EMSs and primary healthcare facilities.
Neil Shikwambana, Limpopo Department of Health spokesperson, said the commitment aims to provide prompt medical care, ensuring patients receive immediate attention and high-quality healthcare services.
“This project brings us a step closer to our aim of improving the quality of life of our people in general and the safety of the citizens of Sekhukhune district in particular. The role played by emergency vehicles such as ambulances in quality health service delivery cannot be over-emphasised. The service of these vehicles is always required in many emergency situations where there are either accidents on our roads or emergency heath or trauma cases in our homes. This is one of the critical programmes in quality health service delivery. Without any doubt, this is one of the health programmes that have undergone much of transformation since 1994,” indicated Ramathuba.
