SK FM elects new Board Members

The Sekhukhune FM (SK FM) has on Sunday 28 April, elected new Board of Directors for the community radio station. The election had taken place during the radio station’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Hlatlolanang Community Centre in Jane Furse.
During the election, Advocate Mphafola Koma was elected the new Board Chairperson, Mr Joseph Maahlo was elected Deputy Chairperson, Mr Peter Maripane became Secretary of the board, Mr Mateo Maisela elected as new Deputy Secretary and Mr Bernard Mahubane elected Treasure of the radio station.
The five additional members elected during the AGM were Mrs MD Matlala, Mrs MR Phasha, Mr HS Mkhabela, Mrs N Bapela and Mrs G Mudau.
SK FM is the second biggest community radio station in Limpopo based on listenership, currently having 28 employees with almost 97% of them being youth and additional of 2% of people living with disabilities.
Jackson Kgaphola, SK FM Station Manager, has congratulated the new board members, saying he believes that they will take the community radio station to greater heights.
“We are very jubilant to inform the community of Sekhukhune and the entire people in the province that SK FM AGM was successful and productive,” he said.
Kgaphola indicated that the newly elected board will be regulated by various prescripts of the regulations in and across the media industry including the adopted constitution.
“This is why during the AGM we were bound to comply with ICASA and IEC guidelines,” he said.
Kgaphola stated that the new board members will serve a five-year term in office, stating that the old board members’ term in office had expired immediately after the new one was elected during the AGM.
Furthermore, Kgaphola said the community radio station is currently developing an induction to workshop and train the new board of directors so that they can do their jobs effectively and efficiently.
“We will continue to engage the community and stakeholders about all unfolding processes and will remain committed to our community public mandate of educating, entertaining and informing them with our footprints,” he said.
Kgaphola vowed that the station will continue to comply with all applicable laws and regulations and adopt an approach that balances the need and expectations of listeners, hence their Motto: “Communicating our needs and serve the best interests of the radio station”.
