Man stabs girlfriend to death, hangs himself
GA-MASHAMOTHANE – The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the ongoing incidents of Gender-Based Violence after a 36 year-old man fatally stabbed his girlfriend and thereafter hanged himself on Sunday, 14 April at Ga-Mashamothane Village outside Burgersfort.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, informed that police were summoned to the scene at a rental place in the village at about 07:15 and on their arrival, they found a body of the woman, who might be in her late 20s, with multiple stab wounds lying outside the rented room.
Ledwaba explained that the police received more information that the deceased’s boyfriend was found hanging in the nearby bushes.
He revealed that they rushed to the scene and found the deceased’s vehicle parked on the roadside and his body hanging from a tree.
“It is believed that the boyfriend stabbed his girlfriend to death and dumped her body at the rental place and then drove to the bushes and hanged himself. The identities of the deceased will be released in due course. The motive behind the incident is unknown at this stage but domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” stated Ledwaba.
General Hadebe said, “We are very saddened by the incident and still urge community members who are experiencing domestic challenges to seek help immediately instead of resorting to violence.”
