Police investigate rape after victim falls pregnant

LEBOWAKGOMO – Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is investigating a case of rape involving a 17 year-old girl who became pregnant as a result.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, revealed that the victim, who resides with her grandmother in Makotse Village, was reportedly raped by an unidentified man at Zone B, near the local high school at about 07:30 on 15 November 2023.

Ledwaba explained that overwhelmed by fear, the victim chose not to disclose the incident immediately. Ledwaba indicated that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be established as the investigation progresses.

“A case of rape was opened in March 2024, prompting thorough police inquiry into the matter,” highlighted Ledwaba.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident. Hadebe said she has instructed the police to track down the ruthless criminal, arrest and bring him before court to face the full might of the law. Police urge anyone with information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrator to come forward and assist.
