Learners exposed to various career choices
TAFELKOP – In a move empower learners on career choices after matriculation, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), in collaboration with the Department of Education and Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, initiated a Career Guidance and Leadership Development programme at the Tafelkop Stadium on 20 March, which enjoyed participation of about 3000 scholars from the village and surrounding areas.
The learners appreciated the programme and indicated that it opened their eyes to various career choices that they had not considered before.
One of the beneficiaries of the campaign, a Grade 12 learner Thato Segolola (17), said the project made them feel special as some of them came from families who are struggling to even afford data.
“This has opened our minds. Now, it will be easy for all of us to know what we can do next year,” smiled Segolola.
Asanda Luwaca, NYDA’s Executive Chairperson, explained that the career expo is aimed at providing guidance and bringing knowledge to the learners in order to help them shape their careers post Grade 12.
Luwaca informed that the programme also avails an opportunity to conduct career research, network and explore a variety of high school exit opportunities.
Collen Malatji, Member of Parliament, highlighted that investing knowledge and skill in the lives of the country’s young people will surely see South Africa immensely benefiting from the skilled workforce.
Malatji believes that the programme conducted that day will change a lot of lives of young people who attended and that their lives will never be the same again.
In his welcome speech, Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Mayor, David Tladi expressed humbleness in the municipality’s partnership with the Department of Education and NYDA to ensure the success of the project.
Tladi thrilled at the reality that the career exhibition exposes learners to alternative choices to empower them to decide wisely with regard to their future.
The mayor encouraged the youth to utilize opportunities provided to them in spite of the many challenges they find themselves faced with.
He further reminded them of the never ending efforts that their struggling parents make to ensure that they have a bright future.
