Limpopo – In a move to chart the course for the future of sports governance in Limpopo Province, the Limpopo Sports Confederation (LSC) is gearing-up for its quadrennial Annual General Meeting (AGM), slated for Saturday 8 June 2024, in Polokwane.
The significant event, which marks the culmination of the current leadership’s term, will witness the election of new officials to guide the destiny of sports development in the province.
Puleng Mmotla, LSC General-Secretary, said the decision to convene the quadrennial meeting was made during the LSC executive committee meeting, held on Thursday 7 March 2024.
Mmotla emphasized that the timing of the meeting aligns with clause 26.5 of the LSC Constitution, allowing for a comprehensive 90-day preparation period.
“As directed by the executive committee meeting, member federations, and district sport confederations are hereby notified of the quadrennial general meeting of Limpopo Sports Confederation, scheduled for Saturday 8 June 2024, at 10:00am in Polokwane,” stressed Mmotla.
He said the roadmap to the quadrennial general meeting encompasses various crucial stages, including the nomination process.
“Nomination forms, in accordance with Clause 24.7 of the LSC Constitution, will be disseminated by the Secretary-General sixty days before the meeting, starting from Tuesday 9 April 2024. Members are urged to submit their nomination forms to the LSC’s Audit Firm no later than Tuesday 7 May 2024 at 16:30, as per Clause 24.8,” explained Mmotla.
He emphasized the importance of nominee acceptance, stating that: “Nominees must ensure their nomination form is signed by the President/Chairperson and the Secretary of the member submitting the nomination, and submit their signed acceptance of the nomination to the auditor at least 30 days prior to the quadrennial general meeting.”
Mmotla said the consolidation of nominations will be overseen at his office on his capacity as secretary-general, in collaboration with the auditor, in adherence to Clause 41.11.
“The nomination list, as stipulated in Clause 24.12, will be shared with all members, along with the agenda for the general meeting, at least twenty-one days before the meeting date,” he said.
Furthermore, Mmotla confirmed that the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) will be appointed as the electoral officer, in line with Clause 24.13 of the LSC Constitution, to ensure the integrity and fairness of the election process.
“We anticipate a free, fair and constitutionally sound delivery of the quadrennial general meeting, and ensuring that Limpopo’s sporting excellence is upheld,” he said.
Mmotla furthered underscored the significance of this pivotal moment in the trajectory of sports leadership in Limpopo Province.
“As the countdown begins to the quadrennial general meeting, anticipation is high for the emergence of new leaders who will steer Limpopo Sports Confederation towards greater heights of achievement and excellence,” he said.
