Police launch investigation after rape of girl
ATOK – The Lebowakgomo Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has initiated an investigation following an alleged rape of a 12 year-old girl within the Apel policing precinct on Friday, 8 March at about 19:00.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said reports suggest that the minor was walking on the streets of Machakaneng Village in Atok, coming from a local shop, when an unknown suspect called her.
Ledwaba informed that it was already dark and the victim allegedly ran but the suspect chased her. “Apparently, the suspect caught the girl, dragged her to his house where he cruelly committed the nefarious act of rape and thereafter, released her. The victim arrived home and informed her family. The police were immediately notified. A rape case was opened to track down the suspect,” explained Ledwaba.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect is requested to contact Lebowakgomo FCS’s Warrant Officer Phakiso Gololo at 083 428 1261, the crime stop number, the nearest police station or send information using the MySAPSApp.
