Suzuki driver gunned down in alleged Dennilton public transport dispute
Dennilton – The Police in Dennilton have initiated an extensive manhunt led by the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit following a tragic murder of a man along the R25 Road in Phooko Village, Dennilton policing area on Friday, 1 March 2024 at about 22:20.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the Dennilton Police swiftly responded to reports of a shooting incident along the R25 Road and upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a male victim with gunshot wounds seated in a white Suzuki vehicle with its doors open.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the victim, identified as Andile Brian Khubeka (33), was the driver of the white Suzuki and was accompanied by two other men when armed individuals approached and opened fire on the parked vehicle. Tragically, the driver was fatally shot, while one of the passengers sustained an injury to the lower body and other escaped unharmed. Emergency Medical Services were promptly contacted to provide assistance and declared the driver deceased at the scene while the two surviving victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” explained Ledwaba.
He said the police are actively investigating a case of murder and two cases of attempted murder in connection with this incident.
“While the motive behind the shooting remains unknown, the police can not rule out taxi-related violence. The police urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
