The Deputy Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nocawe Mafu, joined by MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Nakedi Kekana, have officially handed-over a much-needed Outdoor Gym facility and distributed sport equipment at the Bapedi Kingdom in Mohlaletse Village on Tuesday 27 February.
The initiative was part of the Sports, Arts and Culture Ministerial Outreach Programme, aimed at fostering sports development and enhancing educational resources in rural communities.
Prior to the official handover of the Outdoor Gym facility, Deputy Minister Mafu and the Bapedi Royal Palace Queen Mother, Regent Manyaku Thulare, paid a special visit to Mankopodi Thulare Primary School in Mohlaletse to host the South Africa national flag and donated 100 pairs of school shoes, as well as soccer and netball equipment, further emphasising the holistic approach to community support.
Delivering a keynote address, Deputy Minister Mafu said the hand-over event underscores the government’s commitment to nurturing school sports as a catalyst for broader sports development.
“This initiative marks a pivotal step towards community development, with the Outdoor Gym facility set to be a cornerstone for health and wellness, and the sport attires contributing to the growth of local clubs and schools,” she said.
Mafu said the Outdoor Gym facility hand-over programme serves as a continuous government effort to develop schools in rural communities, and to make school sport the bedrock of sports development, where sport attires are handed over to local clubs and schools as part of the initiative.
The hand-over was also supported by Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), Deputy Minister for the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Prince Zolile Burns-Ncamashe, who were among others.
