ANC Limpopo sacks four mayors

The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has announced that they will be replacing four mayors. The decision was taken during the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting held at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Monday 6 November.
Jimmy Machaka, ANC Spokesperson in Limpopo, said the resolution was reached after the PEC received a report on the long outstanding matter of the Mayorships of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Vhembe District Municipality (VDM), Collins Chabane Local Municipality (CCLM), as well as Makhado Local Municipality (MLM), which had been outstanding since the last local government elections of 2021.
“We also received a report on the finalization of the mayorships of Sekhukhune District Municipality as well as Collins Chabane following the resignation of the Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune as well as the unfortunate passing of the mayor of Collins Chabane,” he said.
Machaka added that following on the nominations and submission of names by the affected regional executive committees, as well as interviews conducted by the National Office of ANC, the party candidates for the positions of mayors, Minah Bahula for Sekhukhune District Municipality, Freddah Nkondo for Vhembe District Municipality, Cde Dorcus Mboyi for Makhado Local Municipality and Shadrack Maluleke for Collins Chabane Local Municipality.
“The PEC further noted that these deployments of mayors will also have an effect in other positions within the political management teams of some municipalities. We urge our regions to attend to such vacancies occasioned by the redeployments,” Machaka said.
He said the ANC PEC calls on all this new deployees to spare their energy, capacity and resolve to attend to the service delivery challenges facing our people with the great sense of urgency.
“The PEC also expresses gratitude to all deployees who accepted and acted in the various roles while awaiting the finalization of ANC processes. The African National Congress is confident that these mayoral candidates are among. The best comrades in our ranks, possessing substantial experience in local government and have the ability to advance our mission of delivering essential services to our people,” Machaka said.
He said the party’s PEC calls on all structures and communities to support the organization as they work towards building better municipalities that provide basic services to the people.
Furthermore, Machaka said the PEC also considered the political overview by Provincial Chairperson, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha and report of the Provincial Working Committee (PWC).
“The PEC expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the thousands of ANC members and supporters who participated in all the 2019 Manifesto Reviews held in various regions. The Manifesto Review rallies in Vhembe, Waterberg and Sekhukhune Region were a resounding success. As the ANC, we are truly humbled by the overwhelming support these reviews received. Through these sessions, the African National Congress was able to account to the public on how the ANC led government was able to deliver on the commitments we made to our people at the beginning of the term of office of the 6th provincial administration,” he said.
