MEC Ramathuba enhances breast cancer awareness
GA-MASHABELA – Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba led the breast cancer awareness campaign at Ga-Mashabela Mongatane Village within the Sekhukhune District on Monday 28 August 2023.
According to the DoH, breast cancer has become a pandemic that has affected the lives of millions of women and even men worldwide.
The department indicated that according to statistics, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women worldwide.
“The disease is caused by the abnormal growth of cells in the breast tissue, which later spreads to other parts of the body if not diagnosed and treated early,” stated DoH.
MEC Dr Ramathuba said throughout this campaign, there will be services rendered that include amongst others, clinical breast examination, Pap smear, Mammograms and prostate examination.
“We are creating this public awareness about the disease, its risks, symptoms, treatment, and preventative measures. We encourage women to take regular screening and also promote early detection and diagnosis. The campaign has in the past helped in saving many lives by detecting and treating breast cancer in its early stage. We all need to join hands to support and promote this campaign to achieve the goal of eradicating breast cancer,” stressed Ramathuba.
