Limpopo Road Safety Programme launched
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Road Safety Programme, organized by the Impact Catalyst Limpopo to strengthen road safety and reduce fatalities, was on Tuesday 09 May 2023 launched in Polokwane.
The Roads Agency Limpopo, as a key role player in road infrastructure, RAL formed part of the panel discussions intended to unpack the strategies to approach road safety projects.
MEC for Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, MEC for Treasury Seaparo Sekoati and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Thabo Mokone were also part of the launch.
RAL’s representative, General Manager Kishan Tulsi gave inputs, saying that collaboration and communication results in coordination.
Tulsi emphasized that to effectively eliminate road fatalities, concerned stakeholders should work together.
He further said revealed that RAL has intensified its road maintenance efforts in a quest to save lives that may perish as a result of poor road infrastructure.
Tulsi indicated the importance of forming partnerships with private sector to augment available resources to ensure road safety.
He cited the partnership RAL has with various mining houses and ZZ2, which have helped and continue to assist in implementation of road maintenance and building of new roads for the safety of road users.
“RAL will work on the layout of road designs by placing more signage, road marking, sufficient walkways, bicycles and other non-motorist routes. Effective ways to make an impact on road user safety is to ensure that there are signage and road markings on roads.
Sufficient walkways and bicycle routes would also make road usage safer because most roads are built to accommodate motorists’ traffic and fewer pedestrians,” said Tulsi.
On behalf of Premier Chupu Mathabatha, MEC Radzilani said” “One life lost is one too many and the Limpopo Road Safety Programme was long overdue.
Radzilani pledged the Limpopo government will work with RAL to ensure maximum safety on roads.
