Alleged fraudster arrested by Hawks
PRAKTISEER
A 27-year-old suspected vehicle dealership fraudster appeared at the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on April 20.
This follows his arrest by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on Wednesday, April 19.
“On April 10, 2019, the suspect allegedly visited one of the vehicle dealerships in Burgersfort and showed interest in the Toyota Avanza valued at R433 960-56. The suspect was allegedly assisted by the salesperson at the dealership to apply for a vehicle finance and it was later approved by the Wesbank,” revealed Limpopo Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke.
He said the deal was signed off and the vehicle was officially handed over to the suspect.
“After a short while, the Wesbank conducted its audit and it was discovered that the suspect used fraudulent documents to apply for vehicle finance. A case of fraud was opened, registered and transferred to the Hawks for further investigation. During the investigation, the vehicle was successfully traced and recovered. The Hawks members continued to hunt down the suspect until he was found and arrested at Jane Furse.”
He was remanded in custody with his case postponed to April 26.
