Mayor sustains minor injuries following accident

TAFELKOP – The Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM)’s mayoral vehicle was on Saturday morning at about 6:20 involved in an accident on the R574 Road in Tafelkop near the Nonyane Filling Station.

The accident involved the mayoral BMW X 5 and a Toyota Quantum that were travelling in opposite directions and side-collided.

EMLM Mayor, David Tladi, his driver, guard and the three occupants of the minibus taxi were in the accident.

Simon Makua, EMLM Communications Manager, said the mayor was on his way to Mogaung Village in the local municipality’s ward 21 on official business, where he was scheduled to attend a funeral of one of the members of the community.

Makua confirmed that while there were no fatalities, Mayor Tladi, his protector and the three other passengers on the minibus taxi sustained minor injuries.

He added that more information on how the accident occurred would be communicated in due course following investigations.

“All involved were taken to the local health facilities for medical observation. The municipality wishes all those involved a speedy recovery,” concluded Makua.

In an interview with SABC news, Lazarus Makua, owner of the minibus taxi, said the driver of the Toyota Quantum indicated that the mayoral vehicle was driving at a high speed when the crash occurred.
