Makhuduthamaga EXCO presents first quarter progress report

The Executive Committee (EXCO) of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) has on Friday 28 October, tabled its first quarterly progress report during an Ordinary Council Meeting, held at the Municipal Council Chambers in Jane Furse.
Among its deliberations, the MLM EXCO said during the meeting that it has noted an increased Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) for road network development and also noted a significant improvement in revenue collection from traffic fines, as compared to the previous year.
The Mayor of MLM, Cllr Minah Bahula, told the council that in terms of infrastructure development for the MIG, the local municipality has allocated R70.9 Million to deliver and improve municipal road network infrastructure in the current financial year, 2022/2023.
“Already, the municipality initiated five new road projects and four of them are currently on construction stage in different wards of the municipality. One of the projects is still on tender stage,” informed Bahula.
She said the council further noted an impressive spending and implementation of MIG grant at 13% for the first quarter, where on several road projects contractors were appointed and some are already under construction.
The projects include the construction of a 2.8km Mochadi Road and a bridge, construction of 2.6km Manyeleti to Mamone Central Road, construction of Makgeru Moshate to Mantime Road and bridge, construction of 5.8km Jane Furse RDP to Mogorwane Road and the construction of 3.4km Malegasane to Mapulane Road projects.
Bahula also presented a steady progress in revenue collection on the issuing of traffic fines to road users transgressors, with a total of 229 summons issued of which 127 of those resulted in issuing of warrant of arrests.
Bahula announced that the municipality has now registered 32 % in overall revenue collection in traffic fines in the first reporting quarter, which is almost 50% collection made as compared to the previous financial year reporting period of 2021/2022.
In terms of Business Licensing Registration Authority, the mayor said the local municipality has been officially designated as Business Registration Center by the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) on the 19th August 2022, as gazetted.
Furthermore, Bahula said the municipality, through its Infrastructure and Community Services Departments, was able to create and administer over 400 EPWP work opportunities at different ongoing road projects and facilities.
