Needy family handed food donations

PRAKTISEER

The Mkhondo family from Mountain Square in Praktiseer is relieved after receiving grocery donations. Although, the situation is temporary, the Mkhondos will at least have something to eat for the month of September.
The family’s challenges were shared on social media, for locals to intervene.
The Mkhondos received groceries, which included basic food items from social workers and a delegation from Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality. The items were officially handed on Saturday.
The excited family members said the groceries can last for a month. “It’s a tough situation for me and my family. I am unemployed and have five kids; I am always in and out of hospital suffering from chronic diseases.
“At times, I am forced to take my medications on an empty stomach due to lack of foods. This has worsened my conditions, “revealed the mother Maggy Mkhondo (49).

She said she was cared for by her 18-year-old daughter, Sarah, who started to be her caregiver since she was 14. The responsibilities have led to Sarah failing Grade 8 four times.

The Mkhondo family survives on child support social grants for their two children, and have to buy food, groceries, clothes and water. The family uses firewood to cook and do not have running tap water or electricity. The family is still in need of donations.
