Sewerage spillage troubles community
MARBLE HALL – Residents of Marble Hall expressed their dismay over the sewerage spillage in the town which they claim has been left unattended for over a month.
The residents allege that several of their attempts to get Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) to attend to the matter bore no fruits.
According to them, the terrible sewerage spillage has been problematic for over a month without attention from the district municipality.
They complain that the unattended problematic sewerage system in the area poses a serious health risk to them.
The residents added that the horrible stench emanating from the sewerage spillage affected them badly as it hovers all over the residential area.
Flip Jacobs, Democratic Alliance Councillor in Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, said that the situation needed attention of the district municipality.
Jacobs said that it was unacceptable for the district municipality to stall in addressing the sewerage spillage which has a negative impact on the residents.
“We have made calls to the district municipality on the matter hoping for their attention but we are disappointed that it still has not been attended for over a month. This is a serious problem and we appeal to the district municipality to help,” indicated Jacobs.
He pointed out at the sewerage spillage flowing in the storm water channel from Silos side passing through town between extension 4, 5 and 6 as problematic.
“We cannot have a situation such as this whereby people’s health is threatened and the authorities are just relaxed as though nothing is wrong. This needs attention and the district must attend to the matter urgently,” concluded Jacobs.
Khomotso Ndlovu, SDM Spokesperson, said a team was dispatched to the area on Wednesday, 17 August 2022 to investigate on the matter.
