EPMLM’s incomplete projects worth millions of rands an eyesore

EPHRAIM MOGALE – A dark cloud hovers above Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality over the incomplete projects worth millions of rands in the local municipality.

The Bolsheviks Party of South Africa (BPSA), an opposition in the EPMLM Council, indicated that the municipality has already paid contractors fully for the three projects in questions.

The BPSA said that more than R60 million was paid for the Mamphokgo Stadium, the Leeuwfontein Sports Complex and the Mashemong/Mooihoek road.

Last week, the local municipality announced the suspension of its Infrastructure Services Director, Pleasure Mashile, amid allegations of full payment of over R22 million to a service provider who left a road project, Mashemong/Mooihoek road project incomplete.

The projects include the Leeuwfontein Sports Complex worth R15 million and still needs more money to be completed and the R22 million worth Mamphokgo Stadium which needs R15 million for completion in addition to the R3.2 km stretch Mashemong/Mooihoek road project.

Seun Mogotji, BPSA leader, said they appealed to Hawks and the Limpopo Government to look into the affairs of the EPMLM.

Speaking on one of SABC radio stations, Thabitha Matladi, EPMLM Municipal Manager, said the all the issues around the projects in question were being investigated by a private investigator.

Matladi said the municipality could not reveal all the details involved because an investigation was still underway.

“Council is not playing, it wants to fight corruption and ensure that public funds are used well so that the residents enjoy themselves where they stay with the services government brings them,” said Matladi.

Meanwhile, the residents remain adversely affected by the incomplete Mashemong/Mooihoek road project and need explanations from the local municipality as to what the way forward is.
