Local gogo’s house renovated on Mandela Day

Mashamothane

The days of gogo Philistas Lekwadu (87) from Mashamothane village staying in a damaged and dilapidated RDP house are a thing of the past.

As part of Mandela month celebrations, Ward 25 local Cllr Tshepo Makutu, members of the Kaizer Chiefs Tubatse branch, players from a local soccer team (Mosebu FC ) and other stakeholders renovated the gogo’s house  from July 17-18.

Lekwadu’s RDP house was burnt back in 2019; she had been staying in the damaged house from the past years. The volunteers fixed, cleaned the yard and also handed the elderly person some groceries.

Japhta “Dimo” Phala from the Kaizer Chiefs Tubatse branch said they felt a need to give back to Lekwadu.

“Mandela devoted his time to the little ones and the elderly, which is the reason we decided to assist gogo Lekwadu.

“We need to thank Cllr Makutu, for organising the renovations and for ensuring that we give back to this old lady.”

Lekwadu was thankful after her house was revamped. “I am very happy for what you have done for me. My house was cold during the winter nights. Thanks to everyone who participated in the renovation project.”
