ANC provincial leadership commemorates Mandela Day in Sekhukhune
MOHLALAOTWANE – The African National Congress (ANC) Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee (Exco) members descended to Mohlalaotwane Village outside Marble Hall within the Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) to join the world in commemorating Nelson Mandela Day on 18 July.
The ANC Limpopo Exco honoured the international Nelson Mandela Day under the global theme: “Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are.”
The team, comprising of the party’s Deputy Chairperson in the province, Florence Radzilani, Limpopo MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, Sekhukhune Regional Chairperson and Executive Mayor, Julia Mathebe, Regional Secretary, Tala Mathope and Deputy Secretary, Given Moimana paid homage to elderly Matlala Sefele.
They spent the day cleaning at the house of the elderly Matlala at which they also plastered and planted a vegetable garden after they had had breakfast with the local Chief Rakgwadi Matlala.
Radzilani said: “We are here today on the posthumous birthday of our struggle icon Dr Nelson Mandela to do community work. Today we had a plethora of activities, in the morning we had breakfast with the local Chief Rakgwadi Matlala and again we have cleaned, plastered the house and planted vegetable garden for Mr Matlala.”
Radzilani encouraged leaders to continue to do good for communities in ensuring that a social contract was built with those communities.
“You would recall that Mandela was passionate about giving a helping hand and assisting communities,” reminded Radzilani.
The 51 year-old Matlala Sefele, who is blind and stays alone, was excited about the provincial party leadership’s visit to his house and all the work they did.
The commemoration was wrapped up with the memorial lecture of Nelson Mandela, facilitated by the Deputy Secretary in Sekhukhune Region, Moimana who is also EPMLM Mayor.
