Ward committees ready to function
JANE FURSE – Following the 2021 Local Government Elections, the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) ward committees for the 2021-2026 term of office were last Thursday, 23 June 2022 affirmed as per prescribed legislation.
Lemson Moropyane, MLM Spokesperson, said that over 300 ward committees would currently be trained.
Moropyane further said that the ward committee members would also be taken through an intensive workshop on their role and duties in communities and tasks towards the enhancement of participatory democracy in various wards where they came from.
MLM Mayor, Mina Bahula, has called on all the ward committee members to understand the road that lay ahead pertaining to matters of local government and what it took to build sustainable communities.
Bahula said it was through all the ward committee members whereby the residents would understand and actively partake on decisions taken by council and processes embarked upon towards the upliftment of lives.
“You remain our eyes and ears on the ground and therefore, you need to be trusted and work towards that commitment. We congratulate you on your new journey, towards growth, development and total transformation of our people,” said Bahula.
The over 300 ward committees have this week endured a two-day intensive induction program to fully comprehend their role and responsibilities that they should carry in communities towards the attainment of services and enhancement of participatory democracy.
The local municipality said they were taken through all applicable legislations governing the ward committees’ environment.
Once again, Mayor Bahula urged the team to abide by their code of conduct and protocol legislations in carrying out their functions in communities.
“You are the behest of the people of Makhuduthamaga that elected you. There is no room for disappointing our people. The code of conduct must remain your bible that should carry you. We hope you at all times, remind yourselves of your constitutional mandate, As foot-soldiers, we expect a seamless link between yourselves and the ward councilors to advise communities on matters of local government such as the deeper understanding of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) as a blue print for sustainable services and many other processes that the municipality embarks upon to improve the quality of life for our residents,” concluded Bahula.
