Poor state of roads in Limpopo
Sekhukhune
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Limpopo calls on the Limpopo Department of Public Works Roads and Infrastructure and Roads Agency Limpopo to clear the backlog of untarred roads.
In a statement released by the party, the R352 road from Sibasa to Willysport in Thulamela joining the N1 to Musina is rotten to the core.
Provincial spokesperson, Titus Tshungu, said it looks exactly the same with the road from Vuwani to Elim that proceeds to the N1 heading to Polokwane, the road from Malamulele to Giyani and the R555 road in Sekhukhune, Elias Motsoaledi also have big potholes, the list is endless.
“It is very disappointing that over 28 years into democracy the roads in the province are still in a bad state, with the majority of them not tarred while there is no plan to address the backlog,” said Tshungu.
He said the ANC government is not ready to neither fix the tar roads nor maintain them and these roads are getting more and more rotten by the day.
Tshungu added that the very same leadership of ANC is using those roads and they see them on a daily basis but they are doing nothing about them because to them it matters not.
“No matter how the lawsuits escalate, the department ignores and act as if nothing is happening,” explained Tshungu.
“The reality is that the ANC is failing to maintain the roads that we have in the province hence they say for the next three years they won’t be building new roads,” he said.
He adds “No wonder why the accident statistics in the province are so high.
Losing lives of our citizens due to road accidents caused by bad road conditions is so painful,”
He reiterates that the only time the ANC led government fixes the roads is when there is an EFF rally and they would only fix the areas leading to the venue of the rally.
