Well performing learners honoured
TAFELKOP – Motetema Department of Education circuit hosted its annual Matric and Merit Awards for the class of 2021 at Matsepe Primary School in Tafelkop recently where former and learners and educators were rewarded for their hard work for the previous academic calendar.
Elton Bvumbi , Elton’s READY MIX CONCRETE Managing Directors, who were party to the success of the event, said that they were all aware of the challenges rural communities were facing and that they were also not strangers to the conditions the same communities face daily and the as a social partner believed they have the power to bring change by taking part in programs and projects aimed at development.
Bvembi further said that education was the only gift they could give to children in preparation for their future and added that he believed that ward ceremony served to celebrate learners and educators for giving their best under those harsh circumstances.
In concurrence with Bvembi and outlining the background behind the ceremony, Ngodiseni Makungo, who is Chairperson of the Principal Council within the circuit, added that they celebrated their matric achievers’ awards and merit awards as a way to look back at their performance in 2021 with an effort to put a plan of action aiming at improving their performance this year.
Makungo further said that the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on students’ performance as they were forced to study on their own and that it was difficult to study online due to lack of resources.
“We are asking for parents to have interests in their kids’ school work because your support is vital and it keeps teachers and parents in a position to act in time,” said Makungo
Mmege Skhosana, Secretary of the Principal Council thanked all stakeholders in the ceremony especially, the event sponsors in Elton’s READY MIX CONCRETE, Old Mutual Marble Hall, Metropolitan Groblersdal and Bana Ba Sekhukhune Community Solution for their coordination and facilitation of the event.
“This day was made possible due to your human and selfless actions, your contribution gave learners and educators assurance that their hard work is noticed and it is also an inspiration to work harder,” said Skhosana.
Motetema Township’s Refilwe Secondary School was awarded the best school in the circuit and a quality results’ school with 67 bachelors pass rate.
