EMLM and FTLM congratulated for improved audit outcomes
SEKHUKHUNE – Elias Motsoaledi and Fetakgomo Tubatse local municipalities in Sekhukhune district were two of the local government institutions in Limpopo Province that Premier Chupu Mathabatha congratulated for improved recent audit outcomes.
Premier Mathabatha was speaking during the Inter-Governmental Forum held at the Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane on Wednesday.
Mathabatha informed that unauthorized expenditure has marginally declined, however the non-submission of procurement documents and non-compliance with the MFMA generally were a worrying trend.
The Premier said that should not be allowed to happen as there should be consequence management implemented in municipalities.
He added that: “I have therefore called on the MECs for COGHSTA and Treasury to develop an intervention plan that can be implemented immediately.
In the same vein, we congratulate municipalities that continue to perform exceptionally well when it comes to audit outcomes.
In this regard I would like to congratulate Waterburg District Municipality for having obtained a Clean Audit Opinion.
Message of congratulations also goes to Elias Motsoaledi, Fetakgomo-Tubatse and Mogalakwena Municipalities for improved audit outcomes.
We hope Mogalakwena will get out of the qualified audit outcomes. Keep it up and continue to making us proud.”
He further said that another issue that has come out sharply in their meeting with the AG was the issue of using consultants, which was not right.
“When municipalities appoint consultants they must be able to help train staff to be able to do their own financials,” said Mathabatha.
