Bothashoek woman killed by her alleged lover
BOTHASHOEK
The Tubatse SAPS have opened cases of murder and inquest following an incident in which a 26 year old man allegedly shot and killed a 19 year old woman at Bothashoek, Dithabaneng on Sunday.
It is alleged that the victim, identified as Dimakatso Mashaba, was at home with her mother when the suspect, believed to be her boyfriend arrived and requested to talk with her outside the house.
“It is further reported that an argument ensued and the man then shot the victim several times and fled the scene. The Police and Members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called and on arrival at the scene, the victim was declared dead.
“Afterwards, a 26 year-old suspect, Tumiso Magabane was later found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, a few kilometers from the crime scene,”revealed Limpopo SAPS spokesman Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo.
Mojapelo said the firearm used for the commission of the crimes was also found next to the suspect’s lifeless body. “It is believed the man might have turned the gun on himself,” added Mojapelo.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Maj Gen Jan Scheepers has urged community members experiencing relationship challenges to seek assistance and desist from resorting to extreme measures of taking lives. SAPS investigations are continuing.
Meanwhile the Department of Social Development has dispatched a team of social workers to Dithabaneng for them to start with the provision of psychosocial support to the two families.
“It is so sad to see the right to life of the woman, taken away in such a violent manner and also during Human Rights month.
“ It is during this time when we all need to respect the right to life of any individual. What we must all know is that women’s rights are also human rights that need to be protected at all material times.
“Premier Stan Mathabatha has on Monday spoken out strongly against this scourge of GBVF as he was delivering his Human Rights Day message. The team of social workers which has been sent to the area will provide psychological support services to the affected parties in that particular locality. We truly condemn this particular incident, said MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale.
