Due to the non-payment of their salaries, support staff at Batubatse Primary School took matters into their own hands.
They locked the gates at the school on Friday morning. This prevented more than 1000 kids from attending their classes.
The personnel, mostly teachers’ assistants said they received their last salaries on December 15 2021.
They told this publication that the school was in tatters.
“We are not even having sanitizers for the kids. We plead with the department to intervene for the sake of the kids. By looking the gates, we want the department to intervene in this matter” they said.
Limpopo department of education spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the issue was sorted.
“The school gates had been opened and learners were fully back in classes since Monday 14 February.”
She confirmed the school SGB and the principal were in the process to make the payments to the support staff.
