BAKONE BA- MASHA MAKAPOLE CPA RECEIVES TITLE DEEDS
GA-MASHA
The Bakone Ba-Masha Makapole Community has officially returned to the land of their forefathers with tittle deeds in their hands. This historic milestone of the handover of the tittle deeds in respect of the farm Kalkfontein 397 KT was officiated by Mr Tele Maphoto from the office of the Regional Land Claims Commission on 01 December 2021 at Kalkfontein Ga Masha Gosebo Tribal Office, Sekhukhune District Municipality, Limpopo.
The Bakone Ba-Masha Makapole Community Land Claim was lodged in 1995 by Kgoshi Masha on behalf of his Community. This is the date which falls within the prescribed period for lodgment of land claims as laid down in Section 2(1) (e) of Restitution of Land Rights Act No. 22 of 1994, as amended.
“Ours is a painful history because we were removed forcefully from our land. However, today as we receive these tittle deeds, we are overwhelmed with happiness because from today we can have a document that identifies us for who where are” indicated Kgoshi Lengwai Masha during his address.
It was a very long process which is characterised by both good and bad as we have already lost other members of our community through death, members who were part of this process from the inception, Kgoshi Masha added.
Handing over the tittle deeds, Mr Tele Maphoto from the office of the Regional Land Claims Commission advised the Masha Community to take care of their land. The land is an economic assert.
The restoration of this prime land remains one of the key tasks of the government whereby amongst other things is to reverse apartheid spatial planning and land ownership patterns in South Africa.
