Six year old raped and killed in Praktiseer
PRAKTISEER
Incidents of gender based violence (GBV) continue to spiral in Praktiseer. The recent incident happened during the 16 days of activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign. A six year old Boithakgatso Komana from Praktiseer Dark City was found killed in her neighbour’s yard on Friday.
Tubatse SAPS arrested Levy Nangoma (28) for allegedly raping the girl and then killing her. The suspect appeared before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday. He abandoned bail with his case having postponed to 1 February 2022. 1
“It is alleged that the deceased was playing with other children in the neighbourhood when her mother noticed that she had disappeared and started to search for her, with assistance of the community. The SAPS were called and proceeded with the search operation. The child’s body was then discovered dumped in a neighbour’s yard.
“The Police immediately commenced with the manhunt for the suspect who was said to be residing in the same street as the victim. He was found hiding in one of the neighbour’s yard and immediately arrested. Police preliminary investigations conducted at scene suggest that the victim was raped before she was killed,” revealed Limpopo SAPS’ spokesman Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo.
The provincial commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has commended the police for their prompt response that led to the arrest of the suspect within hours after he allegedly committed this horrendous crime.
Meanwhile the executive mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) Stanley Ramaila and Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) ‘s mayor Eddie Maila said they were disturbed by the senseless killing of the girl.
The mayors visited the Dark City family for support during the week.
“The killing and any form of abuse of our children is a crisis which all of us in the society must confront and deal with.
“Even more disturbingly, is that this gruesome killing happens at a time when we are in the middle of the 16 Days of Activism for no Violence against women and children. As President Cyril Ramaphosa has repeatedly said ‘Violence against women (and children) is a men’s problem. It is men who rape and kill (them).”
Boithakgatso was buried today December 9.
This is not the first incident, in which kids are brutally murdered in Praktiseer.
In September, Kgothatso Defny Mabilo (11) was also found raped and killed by her mother’s ex-boyfriend in Praktiseer (Shushumela). The suspect Maputana Patrick Lephoto is behind bars for the crimes .The young girl’s body was found by community members, dumped next to the Tubatse River on September 8. Her body had open wounds that showed she was badly beaten.
