Litter not far from municipality an eyesore
JANE FURSE – The Bolsheviks Party of South Africa (BPSA) has expressed concerns on the state of affairs metres away from Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality offices.
The BPSA’s concern results from the sight of a heap of litter with animals feeding from rubbish, plastics and baby diapers among other foreign objects.
Seun Mogotji, BPSA leader, said the current situation outside the local municipality offices was a cause for concern as it put livestock at risk and was harmful to the environment in general.
Mogotji said if they could not clean in front of their own offices, how could it be expected of them clean up corruption in the municipality.
“Just a few metres from the local municipality offices there is a set of traffic lights that are not working, actually it has been years those robots have been in that state. If people can’t maintain the little that they have, then there is absolutely no hope of ever doing anything to improve people’s lives,” said Mogotji.
On the issue of traffic lights, Lemson Moropyane, Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Spokesperson, said they were largely affected by loadshedding and that the lights were maintained from time to time.
Moropyane said they dismissed with contempt any suggestion that they have been neglected for years and further said that was without substance.
“On the issue of cleaning, our EPWP workforce is on site on a daily basis in all our four clusters. Perhaps those making these unfounded allegations should point to the specific area. Our municipality is largely clean,” concluded Moropyane.
