Polokwane
The Member of Executive Committee (MEC) for Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya said she was impressed with the progress made so far since the Polokwane Gateway airport was downgraded in May this year.
During her inspection, a fire fighting drill at the Polokwane International Airport was done to test the simulator relocated over three weeks ago.
According to the MEC the drill was vested by the successful relocation of the Aircraft Simulator which formed part of residual findings from the initial 14 severe safety findings.
The repositioning of the Aircraft Simulator and the submission of Aerodrome Rescue Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) resource information to the Aeronautical Information Services warranted a drill to check the efficiency of the whole fire emergency system.
Firefighters and their emergency vehicles were put to test through a fire drill, and they proved to be up for the task.
The MEC was also pleased with the display and the overall progress,
She however said she was eager to see all the severe, major and minor findings closed as a matter of urgency for the resumption of commercial activities.
