The EFF condemns SASSA for suspending payments at pay points

The Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) in Limpopo condemns in the strongest possible terms the decision by SASSA to suspend payments of social grants.
This comes after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) issued a statement informing its client that there will be no payments today at pay points as per scheduled due to ongoing protest in different parts of the country.
According to the red beret the decision to suspend payments at pay points was irrational.
Jossey Buthane, the party leader in the province, said people of Limpopo are not engaged in any protest and as a result it will be wrong to punish them on assumptions.
Buthane said there is no reasonable excuse for suspending such grants which consequently will lead to the deepening of poverty in our province.
“We call upon SASSA to retract a reckless statement as reported in the news. We reject this irrational decision with the contempt it deserves as it is aimed at shutting down poor families and their livelihoods,” Buthane explained where the party stands.
“Recipients of social grants have no other means of income and most of them feed their families with the grant money,” said provincial chairperson of the EFF.
He said amongst family members who are being taken care of include young people who are capable of working and who have a desire to work but the ANC government is failing them.
The party claims that the suspension of the social grants will further lead to all sorts of social ills in society like crime. We do not want this especially at this point in time.
“We want an assurance from SASSA that no beneficiary will be deprived of their benefits as hunger has no calendar date,” said Buthane.
He also said the decision to suspend payments of social grants clearly indicates that the current government is not moved by the plight of the poor people in this country.
“It is clear that government is trying to provoke people of this peaceful province. The EFF remains the only voice of the voiceless. We say No to Suspension of Social grants payments,” he concluded.
