A final-year student in Mining Engineering at the University of Johannesburg, Percy Tsima is a founder of Sekhukhune Edition 1 sneaker that was established in 2018. This young man from Jane Furse, Ngwanamatlala wants to become an example and an inspiration amongst others. He said the motivation behind SK’s ed1 was to honour the Great Kings of Sekhukhune along with encouraging people that it does not matter where you are from, you can also do it.
“Ever since 2018, we wanted to make a sneaker brand, but things were hard, and I believe they are still going to be difficult. We are building a brand from nothing, no investment, just the little we have. I believe everyone should have access to a sneaker and I mean everyone. I will mobilize many people to rally behind the dream,” said Percy.
Percy is making a mark in Sekhukhune as he celebrates and raises the history of our beloved Kings through the sneaker.
He said his brand is to make a wake-up call to everyone in rural areas that they are also capable of even without connections all they need is to believe in themselves and the quality of their brands.
“Your brand speaks for you. People need to start in making a foundation for their brand which is just taking a step to start; it does not matter if it is still a drafted idea, what matters is you have started. The idea will not sew itself; it will not introduce itself out there. Buy data and do research but mostly market your brand,” he said.
