Mashite Academy- a solution to struggling learners.
Ga-Mphahlele
In this era, Mathematics, Science and Technology are the forefront of the most important revolutions of the 21st century.
The ability to learn them is a highly appreciated principles and it seems to be the key to unlimited human potential.
A hard work, intelligent and determined man has turned his home into a private institution that derives in changing the lives of the younger generation for the better in the education sector.
The founder and director of the Mashite Academy, Mohlomphegi Montjane, said the initiative was established back in June 2019 offering extra lesson online via WhatsApp, only to 10 learners.
But with few registered learners at the time he was never demoralised to continue with his brilliant vision.
After some time, more and more learners become interested, and he saw a need to launch a face to face learning and teaching programme in his home garage with limited furniture of only two tables and ten chairs.
“I walked in this journey and I know the struggle of coping with schoolwork and some learners are staying with their grandparents who can`t assist them with their schoolwork.
“That is when I saw a gap and I filled it, in some cases learners are afraid to ask questions in classes due to peer pressure,” said Montjane.
His initiative is set to help in reducing the level of dropouts and drug abuse in the community and to help learners with their schoolwork so they can excel well in their respective schools.
Not only that, this man who tackles his work with enthusiasm and wants to build a well-equipped library and computer lab that will be accessible by everyone in the community.
Speaking to Sekhukhune Times, former learners said the programme helped them to pass well, especially on subjects that troubled them before registering.
They described their former tutor as a humble person who encouraged them to study hard and believe in themselves and to take their education serious.
“He always had our time whenever we need his help and that really motivated us,” they said.
They went on to implore other learners precisely who are struggling with their subjects to enrol with the institution.
The academy has managed to register over 60 pupils this year and last year it had 30 learners.
He however encountered critical challenges like any other organisations. “As you can see that we initiate our classes in this garage and the space is limited with little school furniture,” he pointed the state of the garage.
He also said the lack of study materials such textbooks and study guides are amongst other challenges.
Therefore he calls on the good samaritans to donate with school furniture, desktop computers and mobile classes.
Registered learners access unlimited free Wi-Fi and Computers that are available. Montjane wishes to move the academy from his home to an open and secured place.
The academy offers these subjects Mathematics from grade 8-12, Physical Science grade 10- 12, Life Sciences grade 10- 12 and Accounting from grade 10- 12.
“We also accommodate Grade 8 and 9 offering them EMS and Natural Sciences,” he explained.
Montjane acknowledged supports from his family and the members of the community as they continued to allow their children to attend his classes.
