POLOKWANE : The South African Police Service in Mahwelereng outside Mokopane have launched a massive manhunt of a suspect who is allegedly involved on two counts of murder, following the gruesome discovery of a woman and a two year old child who were found murdered on Thursday, 14 January 2021 at a Lodge along the R518 road between Mokopane and Marken road, near Masodi village.
It is alleged that on Tuesday, 12 January 2021 at about 19:00, a man and woman with a two year old child were dropped off at the gate of the lodge by a grey unknown motor vehicle.
Apparently, the trio rented a room for overnight accommodation without providing their personal information and promised the receptionist that they will check out the next day, on Wednesday 13 January 2021 at 09:00.
The following day, the receptionist was surprised to see no signs of the visitors and thought that they left the premises. Today on Thursday, 14 January 2021, she decided to go and open the rented room with the aim of cleaning it.
Upon arrival, the receptionist was shocked to discover a woman in her twenties and the toddler strangled to death with their hands tied from the back and their bodies being in a state of decomposition. Furthermore, there was no presence of the male who came to the lodge with the two deceased.
The Police were immediately notified, reacted swiftly and started with their initial investigations.
The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but domestic violence may not be ruled out.
The deceased are reported to have no identification and are still unknown but the Police investigations are currently underway to identify and locate their family.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has instructed that the 72 hour activation plan to track down the suspect be implemented forthwith.
