Hoerskool Ben Viljoen’s Rorisang Rammupudu represents South Africa in Zambia

Groblersdal – Rorisang Rammupudu is an Under 20 Male Athlete from Hoerskool Ben Viljoen High in Groblersdal, Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), has been included in the Athletic South Africa (ASA) team that is representing the country at the African Championships Games in Lusaka, Zambia, from 19 to 23 April 2023.

Rammupudu was selected in the ASA team after emerging as one of the winners at the 2023 National Championships held recently in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal Province.

During the ASA National Championships, Rammupudu emerged as the winner for 200m and came second in 400m races to book his place to participate in Lusaka.

In 2022 during the ASA National Championships, Rammupudu was crowned the Senior Victor Ludorum Prize after breaking a 400m record that was since last set in 1974. And again in 2023, he also received the Senior Victor Ludorum Prize again after breaking the 200m record that was last set in the year 1992.

He finished second in the 400m with the second fasted time in the Under 20 age group and bagged a silver medal for 4x400m Relay.

During 2022, ASA ranked him in the 4th place in the same event in the Under 18 age group. He also participated in ASA Senior Track and Field Championships at MCARTHUR Stadium in Potchefstroom where he competed against big names such as Wayde Van Niekerk where he reached his target that was set for him, which was 46.99 seconds in 400m.

This was a great achievement for Rammupudu more especially that he was the youngest amongst the seniors.

His coach is Jaco Truter who is an educator at the same school and a member of the same athletic club with Rammudu.

Puleng Mmotla, Secretary General of Limpopo Sports Confederation (LSC), has sent well wishes to Rammupudu during his participation in Zambia.

“Rorisang Rammupudu is an athlete that we have great expectations for in the future,” he said.
