Sekhukhune boxers to fight at national tourney

Sekhukhune – Three young boxers from different boxing clubs in Sekhukhune, were selected to represent Limpopo Province in the Junior National Boxing Championships in Port Elizabeth from Thursday 5 to Sunday 10 July 2022, in both the male and female categories.

The boxers, Lindo Rantho, Beverly Mmadi and Samuel Masha were selected to be among the best fighters during the Limpopo Provincial Boxing Championships held on Saturday 7 May at the Malamulele Boxing Gym in Giyani.

Prior to participating in the provincial championships, the trio started their journey with their clubs in the local municipalities, where they kept their legibility to fight better and impress the judges.

Just before they were successfully selected to represent Limpopo Province at national level, the trio was selected to represent Sekhukhune Region in the province during the Sekhukhune Regional Boxing Championships, held at the Moses Mabotha Civic Hall in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality on Saturday 19 February.

The three started their boxing career as amateurs in tournaments organized by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture under the programme called ‘Club Development Under Community Sport’, hosted in different venues around Sekhukhune District Municipality.

The boxing sporting code was announced by the department as one of the seven priority sporting activities to be developed and promoted within Sekhukhune District Municipality villages.

Currently, Sekhukhune has seven boxing clubs from all local municipalities, catering in both male and female categories.

The clubs are: Ngwaabe BC, Lepelle BC, Mmatadi BC, Vleischboom BC, Motsephiri BC, Selepe BC and Matjomane BC. The clubs represent each local municipality within Sekhukhune, in which three of them are coming from Fetakgomo Tubatse, two of them from Elias Motsoaledi, one from Makhuduthamaga and one from Ephraim Mogale Local Municipalities.

The sporting code is sponsored by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture by procuring medals and trophies to award the winners.
