Young aspirant comedian aims high
LEEUWFONTEIN – The 21 year-old aspirant comedian from Leeuwfontein outside Marble Hall, Kelvin Mosoma AKA MZ Comedian, who is doing his Matric this year at Mahlontebe Secondary School, has a vision to take the industry by storm and be ranked among the best in the world.
MZ Comedian, who loves people and wants to see them laugh at all times, says his inspiration comes from greats in the laughter space such as the famous Galane Mashabela.
The 21 year-old comedy fanatic said during his years as a young boy in primary school, he wanted to become an engineer because he was fascinated by electrical appliances.
“As years went by, I realized that I had talent as a comedian. I find myself making jokes and surrounded by people laughing their hearts out. Together with a friend in 2018, we started shooting funny videos, publishing them and people who followed us just loved them. That encouraged me not to give up on wanting to get into this space. I go by the name of MZ Comedian which is derived from the name MZ which I got from someone I know who used to call me by it whenever we met.,” said Mosoma.
Mosoma said after years of doing comedy at small venues, his challenging break came when he finally got a chance to perform at the Range Hotel outside Polokwane in 2019, and had also hosted comedy events in his locality.
“I was awarded a certificate for laughter personality this year on 26 January. I have also won the online auditions on State TV tour competition and I am now going to perform live on 22 May at Rangwako Community Hall in Seshego. I have just been nominated for Mzansi Art & Media Awards for best comedian,” smiled Mosoma AKA MZ Comedian.
The lad adds that he once volunteered on a community development project in which they conscientised learners against the use of drugs and alcohol abuse.
“I wish to see myself successful with what I am doing as a comedian. I have a vision of myself performing on bigger stages. I am also hoping to get sponsors and be able to reach out to large audiences,” concluded MZ.
