EPMLM Mayor’s Cup Tournament held in Elandskraal

ELANDSKRAAL – The Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) successfully concluded its 2025 Mayor’s Cup tournament on Saturday 14 June 2025, held at Elandskraal Stadium in EPMLM Ward 15.

The tournament featured champions from four clusters across the local municipality, showcasing the best of grassroots football and netball in the area.

The sporting event began with cluster champions represented by EPMLM Ward 4, 6, 10 and 16.

In the netball competition, Ward 6 and 10 made it to the finals, with Ward 10 ultimately emerging as the champions.

In the football competition, Ward 6, 11, 4, and 15 made it to the semi-finals, with Ward 4 and 15 advancing to the finals.

Ward 15 won the match on penalties, and they were crowned the 2025 EPMLM Mayor’s Cup Champions.

During the sporting event, the Sekhukhune United FC Marketing team was also present, scouting for talented players to join their development side.

Notably, they identified Tebogo Mafagane and Bredley Maphothoma, inviting them to trials.

The tournament was attended by prominent officials, including EPMLM Mayor Cllr Given Moimane, EPMLM Speaker Cllr Rebecca Lentsoane, Cllr Lina Magane, and EPMLM Director in Community Services, Yvonne Maphutha-Mashaba.

The hosting councillor, Zakhele Mokwana, and a large contingent of enthusiastic supporters were also in attendance.

Director in Community Services, Maphutha-Mashaba, expressed her appreciation for the presence of Sekhukhune United FC at the tournament, stating that this marks the beginning of a long-lasting relationship between the municipality and the team in appreciating and developing grassroots football.
