Hundreds gathered to partake in Mapungubwe 4-in-1 Marathon

POLOKWANE

Hundreds of Limpopo communities from all five districts in the province have on Saturday 8 February 2025 showed up in large numbers to support the much-anticipated Mapungubwe 4-in-1 Marathon, organized at the Polokwane Cricket Club.

The marathon was leaded by MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture, Funani Jerry Maseko.

The 2025 Mapungubwe 4-in-1 Marathon was organized under the theme: “Sport has the power to unite people in a way that little else does”, and it was set for the qualifier of the iconic Comrades Marathon while on the other side promoting a healthy lifestyle and social cohesion.

This premier sporting event, which is named after the iconic Mapungubwe Heritage Site, brought together professional and amateur runners from across Limpopo and beyond to test their endurance and determination while also promoting tourism in the province.

The event featured four race categories, including 42km, 21km, 10km and 5km fun run, catering to participants of all fitness levels.

As a passionate advocate for sport and active lifestyles, MEC Maseko’s participation underscored the Limpopo government’s commitment to promoting physical well-being and fostering community unity through sport.

The MEC emphasized the importance of such events, stating: “The Mapungubwe 4-in-1 Marathon is more than just a race. It is a platform to inspire a culture of fitness, perseverance, and teamwork while showcasing Limpopo’s commitment to developing sport at all levels.”

As the marathon was officially recognized as a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon, it offered athletes an opportunity to secure their spot in one of the world’s most prestigious ultra-marathons.
