Local talent shines during Mapungubwe Film and Video Festival

On Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 November 2024, dozens of Limpopo media fanatics were taken on a cinematic journey through the rich storytelling of Limpopo during the Mapungubwe Film and Video Festival Workshop, which was set to ignite the spirit of creativity in the province.
The festival was held at the Library Gardens in Polokwane and showcased the diverse talents of the province’s storytelling through film from different districts of Limpopo Province’s vibrant culture and talent.
The event was part of the larger Mapungubwe Arts Festival, which is a flagship initiative by the Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture (DSAC).
The dynamic platform brought together filmmakers, industry experts and aspiring creative artists across Limpopo Province.
With a focus on nurturing local talent, the workshop provided invaluable insights, foster collaboration and celebrated the art of filmmaking within the media fraternity.
During the festival, participants gained hands-on experience and practical tools to elevate their craft while contributing to the growth of Limpopo’s creative industries.
Additionally, participants engaged in a vibrant celebration of storytelling and creativity that honoured the rich heritage and contemporary voices of Limpopo and beyond, showcasing films that inspire, educate and entertain, while providing a platform for local talent to shine and connect with the global film industry.
The festival also offered an opportunity for the public to experience the creativity of Limpopo’s filmmakers as those who were selected showcased their creativity free of charge.
The festival served as a melting pot of cultures, fostering social cohesion and nation-building by celebrating the richness of Limpopo’s heritage, arts and lifestyle.
According to organisers, the event was not just about the screenings but also about fostering cultural exchange, nurturing creativity and empowering filmmakers.
