“No cold weather formed against our Gogos shall prosper. “With that promise, ANC Sekhukhune Regional Chairperson, Minah Bahula, led a series of meet-and-greet outreach visits recently, delivering warm blankets to senior citizens in villages across the Elias Motsoaledi and Makhuduthamaga Sub-Regions.
The campaign, which the party says forms part of ongoing engagement with the elders, saw Bahula and a delegation of regional and sub-regional leaders visit various communities in Elias Motsoaledi Sub-Region, which are, Blompoort, OR Tambo, Elandsdoorn, Marapong, Thabakhubedu and Ntwane, to hand-over blankets to elderly citizens.
She was joined by Deputy Regional Chairperson David Tladi, members of the Regional Executive Committee and Sub-Regional Executive Committee, representatives from the ANC Leagues, alliance partners, and a team of volunteers who helped with distribution.
“The elderly are the backbone of our movement and our communities. We are here not only to give warmth, but to sit, to listen, and to recognize the continued support of our Gogos and Mkhulus,” Bahula said.
The outreach continued in Makhuduthamaga Sub-region, where Bahula visited Madibaneng, Malegale, Tjatane, Ramphelane, Manganeng and Mashite Vllages.
The visits were met with ululations, laughter and songs as residents welcomed the delegation into their homes and community spaces. Elders shared stories with the ANC leadership while volunteers assisted with the blanket distribution.
“It was a moment filled with dignity and joy. Our elders felt seen,” one volunteer said.
The week concluded at Jane Furse Comprehensive School, where the regional leadership organized a larger meet-and-greet with senior citizens from across the area.
Affectionately called “Mogaleadi ‘a Hlabirwa” by many of the elders, Bahula was flanked by ANC volunteers as the group first visited the Elias Phakane Moretsele House in Jane Furse before proceeding to the school hall for the main gathering.
There, elders and volunteers shared tea, conversation and music in what the party called “a day of respect and community.”
The ANC Sekhukhune said the blanket drive will continue in other parts of the region in the coming weeks, as part of its broader programme of community engagement with vulnerable groups.
“We leave with full hearts. When our Gogos are warm, our communities are strong,” Bahula said at Jane Furse.
