Government leaders inspect progress on Groblersdal to Luckau Bulk Water Project

National, provincial and local government leaders conducted an oversight visit to the Groblersdal to Luckau Bulk Water Supply Phase 2 Project at Tafelkop Reservoir on Tuesday 14 July 2026, as part of a Ministerial Outreach Programme aimed at strengthening water infrastructure in Sekhukhune.
The visit brought together senior government representatives, municipal officials, traditional leaders and community members to assess progress on the project and discuss challenges affecting water service delivery in the area.
Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Namane Dickson Masemola, led the outreach programme, as part of a follow-up oversight visit for Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) District Development Model (DDM).
The Groblersdal to Luckau Bulk Water Supply Phase 2 Project forms part of broader government interventions to improve access to reliable water and address infrastructure backlogs in affected communities.
The project is critical to expanding bulk water supply and ensuring sustainable services for households across multiple municipalities.
During the programme, government leaders engaged with stakeholders on implementation, identified bottlenecks, and committed to measures that will accelerate delivery.
During the oversight, Deputy Minister Masemola reaffirmed government’s commitment to continued investment in infrastructure.
“Government remains committed to investing in infrastructure development that improves the quality of life of our residents and promotes sustainable community development,” he said.
Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mr Basikopo Makamu.
Mayors from three local municipalities participated in the oversight. They included Mayor of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality (EMLM) Cllr David Tladi, Mayor of Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality (EPMLM) Cllr Given Moimana, and Mayor of Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM) Cllr Merah Mahlase.
In his vote of thanks, Mayor Tladi expressed appreciation to the deputy ministers, the MEC, fellow mayors, government officials, stakeholders, traditional leaders and community members for their participation and continued support.
He noted that collaboration across all spheres of government and with traditional leadership and communities is key to ensuring infrastructure projects are delivered effectively and improve living conditions.
