Pupils Benefit from Kagiso Trust’s  Robotics and Coding Competition

Kagiso Trust continues to invest in education in Sekhukhune. On April 15, Kagiso Trust in partnership with Dynamic Knowledge (DK) and Limpopo Department of Education held the first Robotic and Coding competition for public schools in the Sekhukhune East District.
The competition was held at Thaba Moshate Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort \. Eleven primary schools from local circuits in the Sekhukhune East District attended the event.

The participants were pupils in the foundation phase and the intermediate phases.
Honouring the event was the management and board of Kagiso Trust led by Dean Zwoitwaho Nevhutalu, a Trustee at Kagiso Trust, Dieketseng Mokhali, Director Dynamic Knowledge, educators from participating schools as well as circuit managers from Sekhukhune East District.

Speaking after the competitions, Sekhukhune East District coordinator for coding and robotics TA Makofane said pupils were judged on puzzles matching, peg designs, creativity and on building a model and coding it.
The robotics and coding competition for the foundation phase was clinched by Motloping Primary School from Motloulela, while Marota and Lerajana scooped second and third spots.
The intermediate phase competition produced only two winners, Batubatse Primary’s school bus design saw them win the top prize, while Marota Primary School was the runners-up.

All the participants from the 11 schools received certificates. The winning schools took home an avalanche of prizes that included laptops, medals, miniature trophies and coding and robotics kit.
Education Programmes Manager at Kagiso Trust, Zandile Magutywa said the Trust aims to make a difference in disadvantaged schools. “We appreciate schools that are participating in our programs. We focus on capacitation of educators as they will in turn, share knowledge with the learners.”
To the Sekhukhune East District schools, “We will be there to walk the journey of success with you,” she vowed.
Mokhali indicated that they aim to impart knowledge and skills to the learners.
“We will give support to the schools on  coding and robotics matters. We hope to see learners from Sekhukhune East competing provincially and nationally in coding and robotics.”

Representing the Sekhukhune East, MW Riba, operational manager in the Sekhukhune District Director’s office said they are thankful for the introduction of this competition.
She appreciated the work done by educators, and thanked Kagiso Trust and Dynamic Knowledge for supporting the programme.
Learners from participating schools applauded Kagiso Trust for improving education in the Sekhukhune District Municipality.
“We are excited to have Kagiso Trust supporting us; we encourage them to continue investing in education locally. Competitions and engagement sessions such as these ones, held today, inspire and motivate us,” remarked Bryce Mnisi from Marota Primary School.
