Mathye commends SAPS efforts as crime stats show improvement

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety,Violet Mathye, joined the SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen. Thembi Hadebe on February 23, at the SAPS Provincial offices in Polokwane, to present the 3rd quarter crime statistics for the 2025/2026 financial year. The statistics indicate a 5.8% decrease in overall provincial crime rates compared to the corresponding period last year. However, a 5.9% increase in murder cases was noted.

In her address, MEC Mathye acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the JCPS Cluster and emphasised the need for continued cooperation to address pressing issues. She commended the SAPS for their crime combating efforts, evident in the overall decrease in crime rates, and pledged ongoing support.
“To the Provincial Commissioner and the top management, we commend your efforts. Nevertheless, more work remains. My office, through the HoD, remains committed to providing assistance as required,” Mathye stated, reaffirming the department’s commitment to enhancing community safety.
