Executive Mayor Bahula inspects water provision in Mphanama Village

MPHANAMA – The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM), Cllr Minah Bahula, has on Friday 21 February 2026, led a dedicated SDM team to monitor water provision at Mphanama Village, Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) Ward 37.

Accompanied by Acting Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Municipallity, Cllr Mashego, Ward 37 Councilor Motubatse Saki Ngake, and the Infrastructure, Water and Sanitation’s Operations and Maintenance team, Executive Mayor Bahula inspected all water sources in the village.

Bahula emphasized the village’s abundant underground water and the local reservoirs’ reliance on the Nkadimeng Scheme.

“When Nkadimeng scheme is unable to supply water, we must provide alternative supply measures,” she said.

The visit aimed to resuscitate boreholes providing water to the village before the Nkadimeng scheme could serve the community.

This visit follows a similar intervention by Bahula in Ngwaabe area earlier in February 2026, where the Executive Mayor led efforts to revive dysfunctional boreholes, inspecting four boreholes in Makita and Maphopha. The revival process is expected to be completed within two weeks.

The Sekhukhune District Municipality faces ongoing water supply challenges, with some areas experiencing frequent shortages. In 2023, President Cyril Ramaphosa allocated R25 billion to address the severe water crisis in the district and other part of the country.
