MEC Rachoene takes a closer look at lagging road project

GLEN COWIE/MALAKA – Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, has on Monday 17 November 202, conducted an on-site project monitoring visit to Road D4283, which connects Glen Cowie to Malaka Villages in the Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality (MLM).

According to Tendani Munyai, department spokesperson, the visit aimed to assess specific challenges raised by the community during the #StakeholderTuesday engagement, where MEC Rachoene met with representatives of the Malaka Traditional Council.

Munyai said the Malaka Traditional Council had expressed dissatisfaction with some aspects of the work done, prompting the MEC’s site inspection.

“The upgrade project, which started on 15 June 2023, is nearing completion, with the contractor currently addressing the snag list,” said Munyai.

During his visit, MEC Rachoene praised the community’s willingness to partner with the government to address concerns around the project.

“It is encouraging when communities partner with government, even in the face of challenges, and remain willing to work together to address concerns around the project,” Rachoene said.

The 7.4km road upgrade project is part of the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads, and Infrastructure’s efforts to improve rural roads and enhance mobility in the province. The department has been working tirelessly to ensure that critical roads remain drivable and accessible.

Munyai indicated that currently, the contractor is attending to the snag list, and the project is expected to be completed soon.
