The engagement was conducted with the full recognition and inclusion of all stakeholders, in the spirit of participatory democracy.

According to the municipality, the process aimed to ensure that no voice is left unheard and no community is left behind, through open dialogue, written submissions, and public consultation meetings.

The consultation meeting was chaired by the EMLM Council Speaker, Cllr Junior Thethe, who reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive platform for all to engage meaningfully, raise concerns, and help shape fair, representative, and community-driven ward boundaries that reflect both current realities and future aspirations.

The municipality is committed to promoting transparency and strengthening democratic governance at the local level.

A key highlight of the session was the participation of traditional councils, who brought invaluable historical and cultural insight into the process.

Traditional authorities who were represent included the Bakgaga ba Kopa Traditional Council, Bakwena Ba Matsepe Traditional Council, Ndebele Traditional Council (Mjhatjhana III) and Matlala A Lehwelere Tribal Council.

Their involvement affirms the deep-rooted partnership between traditional leadership and local government in driving development and ensuring that communities are fairly represented.

During the consultation, Malete Sebake, a representative from the municipal ward delimitation team, encouraged everyone to participate in the process.

“We are committed to ensuring every community’s voice is heard. Ward boundaries affect how we’re represented and how services reach us. This process must be fair, transparent, and inclusive.
